First Dance Lesson Preparation

Answering the common questions:

How far in advance should we start taking lessons?

Taking one lesson per week generally yields best results. This allows for practice time in between lessons, but not too much time where you may forget what you've learned. So the amount of lessons you are planning on taking will determine how far out you need to start. The minimum time we suggest is starting one month from the wedding date.

What should I wear to my lessons?

Everyday clothes that are easy to move in are perfect. Shoes? For the gentleman: Leather-soled dress shoes work great or shoes that are similar to what you will be wearing on your wedding day. For the lady: We suggest wearing shoes that are similar to what you will be wearing on your wedding day. In your final lesson, we recommend the bride wears her actual wedding day shoes, so that she can be confident dancing in them.

Other tips to make your lessons great:

1. If you have a digital camera that has a video function we recommend bringing this to your lesson. At the end of each lesson we can record what you have learned so you can remind yourself as you practice at home. Many couples find this to be an essential piece to their lessons!

2. Please come with the dimensions of your dance floor you will be dancing on at your wedding. That way we can ensure your choreography will fit!
